Online UPS Dealer Explain How To Recycle Batteries

Old, Unused car batteries dumped for recycling by ups manufacturers

Batteries come in different shapes and sizes. They differ in chemical composition and thereby need to be disposed of in different ways once they are used up. Household batteries are the most commonly used type of batteries in Chennai. You can find rechargeable as well as non-rechargeable household batteries in almost every supermarket. Lead acid gel batteries come in small to medium sizes and are often rechargeable. They are often used in

  • Wheelchairs
  • Golf carts
  • Scooters
  • Electric toys
  • RVs
  • Boats
  • Military aircraft
  • Portable instruments and tools and so on.

It makes use of a non spillable gelled electrolyte. Lithium ion batteries are often used in cell phones, power tools, laptops, hybrid automobiles, handheld electronic devices, video cameras, etc. They are non-toxic and non-spillable making it a good choice for portable devices. Alkaline and Carbon Zinc batteries are often used in handheld devices like toys, watches, cameras, and electronics and so on. As time goes by, they weaken, making it necessary to replace them regularly.

Industrial batteries exist to help power heavy duty machinery like railroad and also offer backup power for utilities, data centres or telecommunications. These batteries last for a longer time and are excellent for use in different industries. The UPS or the Uninterruptible Power Supply batteries are an example of industrial batteries. They typically use lead acid and come in a hard case. They offer uninterruptible and stationary power in cases of unexpected power interruptions from the primary source.

Battery Dealers believe Recycling Batteries Can Save The Planet

Although lead acid batteries are mostly rechargeable, they can still be recycled once it reaches the end of its life.  Lead acid batteries are often recycled by breaking them down and taking the different pieces and dropping them into a vat filled with a liquid. This result in the lead and the other heavy metal to sink to the bottom of the vat while the plastic to start floating on the top of the vat. The plastic is scooped out and washed and dried before sending it off to a plastic recycler to be given a new life. The lead and other heavy metal that sank to the bottom of the vat is taken out by drawing out the liquid in eh vat. The lead is taken to the smelter and poured into ingot moulds to cool down. During the cooling process, the impurities in the lead float to the top and is scooped away carefully. Once the ingots cool down, they are removed from the mould and sent off to battery manufacturers to be used while manufacturing new batteries. Almost 96% of lead used in batteries all over the country is recycled to be used while manufacturing new batteries.  This recycling process ensures that the lead is continuously recycled, making the planet a cleaner place to live in.

Different Recycling Methods used by Online UPS Manufacturers

Batteries can be recycled in different ways depending on the chemicals used in the batteries. The cells are often chopped into smaller pieces and melted by heating it up. This often allows the metallic substances to burn off and allow the alloys used in the battery to settle down, making it easier to skim it off from the top. Cadmium batteries are recycled slightly differently since cadmium is quite light and also vaporizes at high temperatures. Interestingly, some recyclers pout the heated liquid metal onto pigs or hogs (Not the actual animals). These hogs, pigs, and nuggets are then shipped to metal recovery plants. This is then used to produce nickel, iron, and chromium for high end products and stainless steel.

Since batteries are often crushed during the recycling process, there is a chance of a reactive e event occurring. This is why a liquid solution is used during the crushing. In some cases, recycler also freezes lithium based batteries with liquid nitrogen. Mixing Lithium Ion batteries with lead acid can be slightly dangerous as Lithium ion is more explosive. New recycling methods are being introduced to help retrieve metals. These methods are also known as chemical recycling. In fact, this process is considered to be more cost effective and also produces higher yields than traditional methods. Online UPS manufacturers are devoted to finding new methods to make it easier to recycle batteries.
